Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger at the center of a widely publicized dispute aboard a flight from Uyo to Lagos, has spoken out following her release from custody. In a heartfelt message posted on her Instagram page (#soft_commy), Emmanson revealed that she is still in pain due to how she was treated and urgently needs medical attention before she can share her full side of the story.
She wrote:
“Thank you so much for the prayers, love and support. I’ve been released from the prison, but I’m still in pain due to how I was treated. I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give out my own version of the event. Thank you so much, my lovely friends and supporters. I really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all. Thank you, my great God!!!”
Her release came after the police withdrew all five-count charges against her, including allegations of disrupting peace onboard the flight and assaulting crew members. The Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos granted the withdrawal of charges, and the Federal Government, through the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, oversaw the release process.
Minister Keyamo praised the cooperation of all parties involved and emphasized the need for improved protocols and training for aviation security personnel to better handle disruptive passengers in the future. He also directed the lifting of a lifetime flight ban that had been imposed on Emmanson by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).
The incident, which sparked national debates around passenger rights, airline conduct, and privacy violations following the viral circulation of footage involving Emmanson, has prompted calls from human rights groups and the Nigerian Bar Association for due process and respect for human dignity.
Comfort Emmanson’s message reflects ongoing trauma from the ordeal and signals that she intends to share her perspective once she has recovered. The case remains a pivotal moment in highlighting the balance between aviation security and passenger rights in Nigeria.
