Former Super Eagles Forward Anthony Ujah Retires from Professional Football

Anthony Ujah, the former striker for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. Ujah made the emotional announcement on social media, describing it as the toughest decision of his life. His last club was Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, where his playing time was limited due to injury, featuring in just five games and scoring two goals.

Ujah spent a significant part of his career in Germany, where he played for clubs including Mainz 05, 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen, Union Berlin, and Eintracht Braunschweig. His performances in the Bundesliga earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s notable forwards in the league. Known for his work rate and goal-scoring ability, Ujah amassed over 130 Bundesliga appearances and scored 30 goals.

At the international level, Ujah was capped seven times for Nigeria, scoring one goal. He fulfilled a childhood dream by representing his country and will cherish his time playing for the Super Eagles.

Ujah expressed gratitude to all the clubs, coaches, teammates, and fans who supported him throughout his career. He reflected on football as more than just a game, describing it as his passion and identity. As he steps away from professional play, Ujah hinted that while his playing days have ended, his love for football will remain.
