Kwam 1 Would Be Detained if Nigeria Were an Advanced Country, Social Activist Verydarkman Says Following Abuja Airport Incident

On August 8, 2025, Vincent Otse Martins, known as Verydarkman, criticized Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1) for his conduct at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where Kwam 1 allegedly stood in front of a ValueJet aircraft, blocking its movement and causing flight disruptions. Verydarkman stated that in more developed countries, such behavior would lead to detention due to the serious safety risks involved, including potential harm to Kwam 1 and other passengers, as well as the disruption of critical flight schedules impacting people with urgent commitments.

The activist highlighted the hazards, such as being hit by the plane’s propeller or causing a collision if the pilot attempted evasive maneuvers, which endangered everyone on board. He emphasized how aviation depends critically on punctuality and discipline, noting the disruption affected passengers with life-changing appointments and medical needs. Despite respecting Kwam 1's stature as a music legend, Verydarkman insisted the truth about the peril caused must be spoken.

Background on the Incident

The event on August 5 involved Kwam 1 allegedly refusing to comply with security officers about a restricted liquid in his possession while boarding. Conflict escalated when he reportedly spilled the liquid (later confirmed as alcohol by authorities, though Kwam 1 denied it, claiming it was water) on a security officer and subsequently blocked the aircraft on the tarmac, preventing takeoff. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) placed Kwam 1 on a six-month no-fly list, and ValueJet pilots involved were suspended. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo condemned the behavior as unacceptable and warned airlines flying Kwam 1 risk losing their licenses.

Kwam 1’s media aide and the musician himself rejected claims of unruly behavior, stating the situation was exaggerated and that the liquid was plain drinking water given at the airport lounge, not alcohol.

This incident has sparked broad public debate about aviation safety, enforcement of regulations, and celebrity privileges in Nigeria's aviation sector.
