Ballon d’Or 2025: Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie Loses Out in Best Goalkeeper Category

Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the prestigious Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper at the Ballon d’Or 2025 ceremony in Paris on September 22, 2025. Despite her impressive performances, she did not win the award in the best goalkeeper category.

The Yashin Trophy recognizes top goalkeepers from both the men’s and women’s game. This year’s nominees for women included players like Hannah Hampton of Chelsea, Spain’s Cata Coll, and Germany’s Merle Frohms among others, with fierce competition in the category.

Chiamaka Nnadozie’s nomination was a testament to her outstanding displays with Paris FC and the Nigerian national team, marking her as one of Africa’s leading football talents.

The award for the best male goalkeeper went to Emi Martinez of Aston Villa, who is aiming for his third consecutive Yashin Trophy, while notable nominees included Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alisson Becker, and Thibaut Courtois.

Nnadozie’s inclusion among the nominees brought significant pride to Nigeria and highlighted the growing visibility and recognition of Nigerian footballers on the global stage.
