A 21-year-old woman named Bina has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her 34-year-old cohabiting partner to death. The incident occurred after a heated argument between the couple, who had been living together for four years and share two children.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the woman confessed to stabbing her partner in the chest during a quarrel that escalated violently. According to her statement, the man attempted to end their relationship and became physically abusive, beating her and smashing her head on the ground, prompting her to defend herself by stabbing him with a knife she retrieved from the kitchen.
SP Edafe lamented the societal issues contributing to such tragedies, including early cohabitation without formal marriage arrangements, and questioned who bears responsibility the individual, society, or the parents who allowed the relationship to start when she was just 17.
The woman’s fluent English and early cessation of formal education at SS2 were also noted, underscoring the complexities behind the incident. This case highlights ongoing domestic violence concerns and societal challenges around early relationships and family dynamics in Nigeria.
