Former Labour Party Vice-Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has emphasized that Nigeria can only achieve true leadership and lasting security when leaders are genuinely elected by the people. Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today,’ Baba-Ahmed stated that the cycle of killings and insecurity will persist as long as elections are stolen and leadership legitimacy is compromised.
He highlighted that the roots of insecurity are deeply tied to political manipulation, notably recalling how in 2015, groups used insecurity as a political tool to achieve their aims. He cautioned that contemporary challenges continue to be fueled by the exploitation of religion, ethnicity, internal political party divisions, and the heavy use of money in politics.
Baba-Ahmed’s remarks stress the urgent need for electoral reforms and transparent governance to break the cycle of insecurity. According to him, the political restructuring required to secure Nigeria’s future hinges on the integrity of the electoral process and the authenticity of elected representatives.
