Reuben Abati Rebukes Nyesom Wike, Says He Lacks Moral Ground to Criticize Political Opponents

Veteran journalist and former presidential media adviser Reuben Abati has launched a strong critique of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to attack top political figures like Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Nasir El-Rufai. Abati made these remarks during a recent interview, urging Wike to reflect on his own character before disparaging others.

Abati responded sharply to Wike's recent claims that Peter Obi's return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would destroy the party. According to Abati, it was actually Wike himself who contributed to the PDP’s challenges, and therefore he is not in a position to judge others’ character. He questioned the media's role in giving Wike a platform to make such reckless and unintelligent statements, emphasizing that political opponents deserve fair opportunities to respond.

Highlighting Wike’s shifting political stance, Abati stated that the FCT Minister is already part of another political party, which disqualifies him from determining the fate of the PDP. He further challenged Wike's attempt to advise former President Goodluck Jonathan on his political ambitions, underscoring that Wike’s own political position should be scrutinized first.

Abati concluded by criticizing the media for enabling Wike’s unchecked disparagement campaign, calling for balanced reporting that allows all parties their right to reply. His comments shed light on the ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, where accusations and counter-accusations among prominent figures continue to capture headlines.
