Wike Challenges El-Rufai, Bets on Tinubu Winning 2027 Presidential Election

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has challenged former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai over his prediction that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would come third and lose the 2027 presidential election. Wike dismissed El-Rufai’s calculations as flawed and incomplete.

Speaking during his Monday media chat, Wike stated that if El-Rufai believes Tinubu will finish third, he should also identify who would come first and second. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, saying he is willing to place a bet on the incumbent winning securely in 2027.

Wike also downplayed the threat posed by opposition figures such as Peter Obi, asserting that political dynamics will shift significantly by the next election. He urged political opponents to focus on strategy rather than speculation and emphasized that winning elections in Nigeria has always been contentious, with few concessioners except former President Jonathan.

This exchange highlights the intensifying political debate ahead of the 2027 polls, with Wike firmly backing Tinubu’s chances while rebutting critics’ predictions of his defeat.
