The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, who reportedly slumped and died on October 1, 2025. The party’s State Publicity Secretary, MacDonald Amadi, described Asuzu’s passing as a devastating loss, praising him as “a man of uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”
Asuzu, a native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, was known for his blend of academic excellence and grassroots activism. He held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was pursuing a doctoral degree before his untimely death. Outside politics, Asuzu was a theologian, entrepreneur, cultural advocate, and founder of Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform promoting cultural renewal and intellectual engagement. He was also the founder and national leader of the coalition support group “I Stand With ADC.”
Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, expressed deep grief over Asuzu’s death, recalling recent meaningful discussions with him and describing the passing as “a stark reminder of life’s fragility.” Ihedioha lauded Asuzu as a promising young man with great potential and vision, whose absence will leave a significant void in Imo ADC and beyond.
Asuzu is remembered as a devoted husband, father, and mentor, whose legacy of integrity, faith, and vision continues to inspire many across both religious and secular communities.
