The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Bishop Ndibueze Onyagoziri Okorie, General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, on allegations of engaging in a “sex-for-healing” ritual with a 22-year-old female sickle cell patient. The arrest, confirmed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu, took place on October 1, 2025, and the bishop remains in custody as investigations continue.
A viral video circulating on social media features the victim narrating how she began living with the cleric following an arrangement between him and her family, who hoped for her recovery through "divine healing" at the church. The victim alleges that Bishop Okorie promised that seven days of sexual intercourse with him would miraculously change her sickle cell genotype from SS to AA.
She described her desperation to survive after losing three siblings to the disease as the reason for complying, but claimed her health worsened soon after, prompting her to raise alarm and inform her sister. The victim's elder sister insisted she return home once the healings failed, but the victim alleges that the bishop threatened to leak nude photos of her if she left.
After returning to her village, the victim’s fears materialised with the circulation of alleged nude photos of her and the cleric on social media, prompting public outrage.
Bishop Okorie has denied the allegations, asserting he never had sexual relations with the victim. He claimed his phone was stolen and that the alleged nude images were fabricated using Artificial Intelligence technology.
