Benue Outrage: Angry Youths Burn Monarch’s Home and Office in Kwande

Tension erupted in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State as angry youths stormed and set ablaze the residence and office of the Mue Ter Ichongo, His Royal Highness Simon Baver. The violent attack unfolded on Wednesday in Turan community, reflecting rising frustration among locals over security challenges and recent clashes involving troops and bandits in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the mob vandalized valuables before setting fire to the monarch's properties. The youths’ fury is believed to stem from the death of three students of Government Science Secondary School Jato-Aka, who were caught in a crossfire between Nigerian soldiers and bandits the previous day. The students reportedly died from stray bullets during the exchange, sparking protests and outrage within the community.

The incident has heightened calls for peaceful dialogue and urgent government intervention to address security and societal grievances in Kwande. Benue public officials have appealed for calm and assured that measures are underway to prevent further violence and ensure justice.

This latest unrest highlights the complex security situation in parts of Benue State, where communal frustrations and armed conflict continue to fuel instability.
