Dangote Petroleum Refinery has vehemently denied reports that it imported finished premium motor spirit (PMS) with high sulphur content into Nigeria, describing the claims as false, misleading, and malicious. The company clarified in a statement released on October 10, 2025, that the cargo in question was an intermediate feedstock not finished petrol used as a raw material in the refining process.
As a world-scale complex refinery operating within a Free Trade Zone, Dangote processes a wide range of crude oils and intermediate feedstocks a standard global practice aimed at optimizing production and ensuring fuel quality. The intermediate feedstock will undergo full refining at Dangote’s facilities to meet both Nigerian and international quality standards before distribution.
The refinery emphasized its commitment to producing and selling only high-quality fuels that comply fully with all regulatory specifications. It highlighted exports of petroleum products to highly regulated markets such as the United States and Europe as evidence of its adherence to global standards.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery further stated that all imported feedstocks come with quality certificates, which are transparently shared with regulatory authorities. The company expressed willingness to make relevant documents available to the public in the interest of transparency and accountability.
This clarification comes amid increasing speculation and rumors about the quality of locally produced fuels, underscoring Dangote Refinery’s role in advancing Nigeria’s energy independence and delivering cleaner, high-quality petroleum products.
