Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in their Group F match at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Talca, Chile. The win, sealed by captain Daniel Bameyi’s stoppage-time penalty, keeps Nigeria’s hopes alive for advancing to the knockout stage.
The match started with Nigeria’s Nasiru Salihu scoring early in the 10th minute. Saudi Arabia quickly equalized through Ammar Al-Yahibi in the 21st minute, and Nigeria regained the lead with a goal from Amos Ochoche in the 38th minute. The Saudis fought back in the second half with a header by Talal Haji in the 50th minute, leveling the score at 2-2.
In a dramatic finish, Bameyi’s composure from the penalty spot in the 94th minute sealed the victory. His standout performance earned him the Man of the Match award, highlighting his leadership and skill under pressure.
Head coach Aliyu Zubair praised the team’s resilience and determination, emphasizing the importance of securing three points to boost their chances of advancing. The Flying Eagles will next face Colombia in a crucial group stage encounter as they pursue their maiden U-20 World Cup title.
