Reno Omokri Responds to Critics: “May Nigeria Happen to Me and Keep Happening as Long as I Live”

Former presidential aide and social commentator Reno Omokri has addressed Nigerians who often speak negatively about the country, expressing a heartfelt wish for Nigeria to “happen” to him and continue to do so throughout his life. Omokri’s statement counters the popular lamentation saying, “May Nigeria never happen to me,” which he criticizes as unfairly focusing on the nation’s challenges while ignoring its progress.

In a social media post, Omokri highlighted the dual nature of life’s experiences both good and bad are universal. He noted that many Nigerians fail to attribute positive developments to the country, despite significant achievements. Citing recent improvements such as the national student loan scheme helping over 600,000 Nigerians, a notable drop in food prices and inflation, and record electricity generation, Omokri urged citizens to recognize and celebrate Nigeria’s successes.

He drew a comparison to the United States, which experiences higher annual murder rates yet remains largely loved by its citizens. Omokri argued that Nigeria, though imperfect, is a great nation undergoing steady progress and urged people to adopt a balanced perspective beyond solely highlighting negatives.
