Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Set to Dump PDP for APC, Alongside Lawmakers and Party Officials

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is poised to officially defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The defection will include not only the governor but also lawmakers, commissioners, members of the state executive council, and party leaders across Enugu State.

The move aims to strengthen APC’s foothold in the Southeast region, with prominent support from the party’s national leadership. APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, recently inaugurated a caretaker committee in Enugu, signaling the party’s intent to consolidate gains in the state.

Dr. Ben Nwoye, the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman for APC in Enugu, confirmed Governor Mbah’s imminent defection during a briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. This development follows similar defections of PDP governors in Delta and Akwa Ibom States earlier in 2025.

The defection signifies a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, potentially impacting the balance of power in the Southeast and nationally.
