Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that his administration will officially flag off the reconstruction of the 25-kilometre Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road project on Friday, October 24, 2025. Although this road is a federal road, Governor Otti disclosed that his government successfully secured the necessary federal approval to undertake the reconstruction for the benefit of Abians.
The governor expressed disappointment with some individuals from Abia State who tried to frustrate the approval process. He questioned their sense of patriotism, emphasizing that their attempts to stall the project were misplaced.
Despite these challenges, Governor Otti assured the public that all obstacles have been overcome and the project will commence as planned. The Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene road, which has been in a deplorable state for decades, is a crucial commercial route linking Abia with Akwa Ibom and facilitating trade, agriculture, and commerce across several local governments.
This project forms part of Otti’s wider Road Revolution Agenda, focused on rehabilitating and reconstructing critical road infrastructure to stimulate economic development and improve the quality of life for Abians. His administration has also demonstrated resilience and commitment by transforming promises into visible development despite political opposition.
The flag-off event will symbolize a significant milestone in Abia’s infrastructural transformation, highlighting Governor Otti’s vision of inclusive governance focused on tangible results rather than political ownership of roads.
The reconstruction is expected to boost business activities, enhance mobility, and attract investment to the region, signaling that Abia State is progressing under Otti’s leadership.
