Kwankwaso Predicts 2027 Elections Will Be Nigeria’s Toughest, Open to Alliances with Major Political Forces

Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has forecasted that the 2027 general elections will be the most fiercely contested in Nigeria’s history. Speaking during an interview to mark his 69th birthday, Kwankwaso emphasized that increased political awareness among Nigerians, driven by radio and social media, is changing the electoral landscape with voters no longer willing to sell their votes.

He described the 2027 polls as highly competitive, with Nigerians demanding genuine change to end insecurity, poverty, and bad governance. Kwankwaso highlighted that citizens are now more informed and ready to defend their votes, signaling a shift towards issue-based politics.

Importantly, Kwankwaso declared the NNPP’s openness to forming alliances with major parties and political figures including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC), former President Goodluck Jonathan, and Peter Obi (ADC), provided such coalitions prioritize the welfare of everyday Nigerians. He stressed that any collaboration must be based on mutual respect, clear benefits, and a shared vision for uplifting the common people, education for youth, and improved security.

His comments come amid talks of political realignments and coalition-building as parties position themselves for the next general election, with Kwankwaso’s NNPP seeking to leverage its national structures and influence to shape the outcome significantly.

Kwankwaso also criticized the political elite for neglecting national woes while living lavishly, asserting that ordinary citizens are suffering severe insecurity in several states. He expressed confidence that accountability would come for leaders disregarding the people's plight.

The statement sets the stage for a tense, unpredictable 2027 electoral contest that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and governance priorities based on the demands of a more politically conscious electorate.
