Public Execution Will Curb Kidnapping - Actor Williams Uchemba

Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has publicly called for the enforcement of public executions for convicted kidnappers in Nigeria as a deterrent to the rising insecurity. In an emotional Instagram video, Uchemba urged the government to fully enforce the death penalty already prescribed for kidnapping under the Nigerian constitution but lamented that executions often happen in secrecy without public awareness.

He drew an analogy with parenting, emphasizing that leniency breeds hardened criminals: “When a child steals meat from the mother’s pot and the mother does little to punish, she’s raising a hardened criminal who will later cause greater harm.” Uchemba stressed that visible consequences for serious crimes like kidnapping are necessary to deter others.

Highlighting the emotional toll kidnapping has taken on victims and the nation, Uchemba even suggested creating a dedicated media channel showcasing the capture and execution of kidnappers, comparing it to popular reality shows as a method of public deterrence.

His passionate plea comes amid increasing public outcry for stronger measures against insecurity in Nigeria. Uchemba’s sentiments reflect the frustrations of many Nigerians fearing for their safety and calling for decisive government action.

The actor’s stance adds urgency to the national discussion on how best to combat kidnapping and restore a sense of security in the country.
