Nigeria at 65: CAN Emphasizes Pain of Terrorism, Banditry, Kidnapping on Citizens

On Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the enduring impact of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping on the lives of citizens. In a statement, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh acknowledged Nigeria’s progress since independence but stressed that true development should be measured by the security and well-being of its people.

Archbishop Okoh highlighted that while strides have been made in restoring safety, much remains to be done to protect lives and property. He emphasized the need for collective sacrifices, unity beyond ethnic and religious lines, and good governance to overcome these security challenges.

CAN also noted the heavy toll of economic hardships, including rising living costs, food insecurity, and unemployment, stressing the importance of youth empowerment and investment in education and innovation to prevent brain drain and nurture national development. The association prayed for wisdom and strength for Nigerian leaders to successfully carry forward reforms that will bring peace, prosperity, and unity to all Nigerians.
