Trump Permanently Revokes Wole Soyinka’s US Visa

Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has revealed that the United States government, under President Donald Trump, has permanently revoked his B1/B2 visa, effectively banning his entry into the US. Soyinka disclosed this during a media briefing at Freedom Park, Lagos, stating he received official notification on October 23, 2025, from the US Consulate General in Lagos.

The letter from the US government cited “additional information” obtained after issuing the visa as the reason for revocation. Soyinka expressed confusion and said he was unaware of any wrongdoing or legal issue that would justify this action, asserting he has no criminal record or prior conviction.

Recalling past tensions, Soyinka said he tore up his American Green Card in 2016 as a protest against Donald Trump’s policies, which he viewed as divisive and racist. He also mentioned ignoring an invitation for a visa re-interview, which he considered unnecessary, and linked this refusal possibly to the visa's cancellation.

Despite the revocation, Soyinka stated he harbors no ill feelings towards the United States or its people, welcoming any legitimate visitors to his home in Nigeria.

The visa revocation has drawn significant attention as Soyinka remains a vocal critic of policies he perceives as unjust and continues to advocate against discrimination globally.
