Benue Lawmaker Declares Nigeria Under Siege: Community Attacks Constitute Genocide

Benue State lawmaker Blessing Onuh, has warned that Nigeria is under siege from coordinated attacks on rural communities, branding the assaults as genocide targeting vulnerable populations. Recent raids by suspected Fulani militants and Boko Haram in areas like Yelewata and Wagga Mongoro killed over 200 in a single incident, burned homes, and displaced thousands, with locals alleging army complicity as strikes follow troop withdrawals.

Church attacks in Kwara and Kaduna, including the Eruku Christ Apostolic Church raid that killed worshippers and abducted a pastor, compound the crisis alongside farmer-herder clashes claiming hundreds in Plateau and northcentral regions.

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International highlight failure to protect Christian farming communities, with over 450,000 displaced and humanitarian needs surging due to violence, floods, and economic woes. Protests have erupted in Taraba and elsewhere demanding security probes, as President Tinubu faces U.S. scrutiny over Christian persecution claims.
