Paystack Fires Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has terminated the employment of its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations of sexual misconduct involving a junior employee. The controversy began in mid-November 2025, when a viral social media post accused Olubi of abusive behavior. This prompted resurfacing of decade-old explicit tweets from his early career, intensifying public scrutiny.

Paystack initially suspended Olubi and launched a formal investigation, pledging a review process with an independent investigator. However, Olubi revealed in a blog post that he was fired before the investigation concluded, without a meeting, hearing, or chance to respond, allegedly breaching Paystack’s internal policies.

The resurfaced social media content included sexually explicit jokes about colleagues and references to minors, raising questions about workplace culture and leadership accountability within Africa’s fast-growing tech sector.

Olubi’s legal team announced it would review the company’s termination process for potential legal action. Paystack, acquired by Stripe in 2020, has not issued further statements, and it remains unclear whether Stripe will comment.

This case has renewed calls for stronger workplace governance and accountability in the African technology ecosystem.
