Labour Party Rejects Automatic 2027 Ticket for Peter Obi, Insists on Primaries

The Labour Party has ruled out any automatic presidential nomination for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections, committing to open primaries for all aspirants.

Party spokesman Obiora Ifoh stated that the National Executive Council mandates competitive conventions, rejecting special privileges despite Obi's 2023 candidacy. He highlighted Obi's prolonged absence from party activities under Chairman Julius Abure, questioning his current membership while welcoming potential reconciliation.

The decision stems from ongoing leadership clashes since the election, with Obi's camp accusing Abure of financial irregularities and overreach, leading to Obi's disengagement earlier this year. LP focuses on state congresses in Ekiti, Osun, and beyond under INEC oversight to strengthen structures for future contests.

Ifoh called on Obi to reaffirm loyalty as the party eyes electoral gains through internal democracy, amid speculation of Obi's interest in other platforms like ADC.
