Professor Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has passed away at the age of 64 after a brief illness. The respected history professor and educational mentor, born in Ede, was serving as the Provost of the Postgraduate College at Osun State University until his death. His passing was confirmed by close family members and reported on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Professor Oyeweso was known for his dedication to education and leadership within Nigeria’s academic community. He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family. Plans for his burial include interment in his hometown of Ede later the same day following solat Ashri prayers.
