Germany Shocked: Nearly 20,000 Rounds of Bundeswehr Ammunition Stolen from Unsecured Truck

Unknown thieves ransacked a civilian delivery truck in Burg, Saxony-Anhalt, stealing approximately 20,000 rounds of ammunition destined for a Bundeswehr barracks, including 10,000 live handgun rounds, 9,900 blank assault rifle cartridges, and smoke munitions.

The incident occurred overnight from November 24-25, 2025, after the driver made an unplanned stop at a hotel, leaving the vehicle unattended in an unsecured industrial parking lot, violating security protocols that require two drivers with constant monitoring. The theft was discovered the next morning upon arrival at the barracks, prompting an investigation by the Bundeswehr and local police.

Germany's Defense Ministry called the breach serious, stressing that such ammunition must not fall into wrong hands, amid suggestions the truck was surveilled rather than randomly targeted. This follows recent ammo thefts in the region, raising alarms over military supply chain vulnerabilities.
