"Na your mama be this o eh!": Delta Nursing College Threatens Student Over Viral Video Mocking First Lady

The Delta State College of Nursing has issued a disciplinary query to student Osato Edobor for her alleged involvement in a viral video where nursing students rejected First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as their "mother" during a public event.

The Incident

During the First Lady’s visit to Asaba on March 25 for the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme, an MC led a call-and-response song, chanting:

MC: "Na our mama be this o, we no get another one." (She is our mother, we have no other.)

Students: "Na your mama be this o eh!" (She is your mother, not ours!)

When the MC repeated the line, mentioning Mrs. Tinubu by name, the students again refused to affirm the sentiment, sparking widespread online reactions.

College’s Response

In a query signed by Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, the college accused Edobor of:

Recording and circulating the "unofficial response" on TikTok.

Engaging in a "malicious act" violating the school’s disciplinary codes.

She was given 24 hours to explain herself or face punishment under the student handbook’s "standardized disciplinary actions."

Public Reaction

The video has stirred debates, with some condemning the students’ perceived disrespect, while others argue it reflects youth frustration with political symbolism. The college’s threat of punishment has further intensified discussions on freedom of expression versus institutional discipline.

No official statement has been released by the First Lady’s office regarding the incident.
