Rivers State: Suspended Governor Fubara Vows Commitment to Oath Amid Political Turmoil

Suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has reaffirmed his commitment to the oath of office he took, assuring the people of Rivers State that he remains focused on delivering good governance despite the ongoing political turbulence.

In a statement marking the second anniversary of his swearing-in on May 29, 2023, Fubara described the occasion as a moment for sober reflection and renewed determination. He emphasized that the backing he has received from the people has given him the courage to continue pursuing unity and healing amid the political challenges.

“Today marks exactly two years since I took the oath of office as your 7th democratically-elected Governor,” Fubara stated. “Despite the turbulence, I have remained steadfast and focused, guided by the oath I took and the solemn promise I made to always put Rivers State first.”

Rivers State has been embroiled in a political crisis stemming from a disagreement between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The crisis affected the state House of Assembly and prompted President Bola Tinubu to intervene, suspending Fubara and declaring a six-month state of emergency to prevent further security issues. The state is currently under the leadership of a Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd).

Fubara’s recent meeting with Wike signals ongoing efforts to reconcile and restore peace in the state.
