A Nigerian social media activist, known as Chibuike Nwachukwu, has accused the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, of double standards in the agency’s anti-corruption operations. In a statement released on his social media platforms, Nwachukwu alleged that the EFCC selectively targets individuals for prosecution while shielding others with political connections.
Nwachukwu further claimed that he has faced abduction attempts and repeated threats to his life since he began publicly criticizing the EFCC’s leadership. He recounted a recent incident where unidentified men allegedly tried to force him into a vehicle near his residence, warning him to stop his activism or face dire consequences.
The activist called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to investigate the EFCC’s activities and ensure the protection of whistleblowers and activists. He urged civil society organizations and the international community to pay closer attention to the state of human rights and anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.
Nwachukwu’s allegations have sparked renewed debate online about the transparency and impartiality of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies, as well as the safety of activists and journalists who speak out against corruption.
