Shehu Sani Backs Tinubu and Uba Sani’s Re-Election in 2027, Citing Regional Equity and Progress

Former senator and human rights activist Shehu Sani has publicly declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Abuja, Sani emphasized that backing their re-election is a higher priority for him than his personal political ambitions.

Sani argued that since the North had already produced a president, Muhammadu Buhari, who served two terms totaling eight years, it would be irrational and irresponsible for the region to seek to reclaim the presidency in 2027. He urged northerners to wait until 2031 for their turn, stressing the importance of respecting the principle of power rotation to maintain national unity.

Highlighting Tinubu’s previous support for Buhari’s presidency and the reciprocal backing from the South-West, Sani called on the North to return the favor by supporting Tinubu’s bid. He pointed to significant developments under Tinubu’s administration, including infrastructure projects that were neglected during previous northern-led governments, and the appointment of northerners to key ministerial and security positions.

Sani also criticized past northern administrations for failing to address critical issues such as insecurity, stalled infrastructure projects like the Mambilla power project and major road constructions, and abandoned agricultural programs. He contended that the current government has made notable progress in these areas, which justifies continued support.

He warned against allowing ethnic and regional sentiments to undermine Tinubu’s administration, urging northerners not to be swayed by political elites whose grievances stem from exclusion rather than genuine concern for the region’s welfare.

In conclusion, Shehu Sani’s endorsement of Tinubu and Uba Sani reflects a call for political patience, equitable power sharing, and recognition of the achievements made under the current administration as reasons to support their re-election in 2027.
