Anambra Governor Soludo Officially Moves into New Government House, Ending 34-Year Jinx

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has officially moved into the newly constructed government house complex in Awka, known as the Anambra Light House City. This event marks a historic milestone as the state had operated for over 30 years without a permanent government house. Soludo revealed this during a rally in Awka to endorse his re-election bid in the November 2025 gubernatorial election.

The new government house complex comprises over 36 buildings, including the governor’s and deputy governor’s lodges as well as support staff facilities. It has been described as the best government house in Nigeria, with some comparing it to Abuja’s Aso Rock. The project was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu earlier in May 2025 and represents a major achievement under Soludo’s administration, breaking a decades-long jinx of lacking a fitting government seat.

Before this, Anambra was unique in having its government house and governor’s residence located in different towns the government house in Awka and the governor’s lodge in Amawbia. With this new facility, Soludo now both lives and works in one centralized location within the state capital.

The governor emphasized the significance of this project in fostering effective governance and symbolizing the state’s progress. The initiative to complete the government house had stalled for over two decades, starting with previous administrations and only completed under Soludo’s tenure.

This move is seen as part of Soludo’s broader infrastructural and developmental agenda in Anambra State and is expected to enhance governance service delivery as well as statewide pride in the state capital.
