The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has officially renamed the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, paying tribute to indigenous rapper and music executive Olamide Adedeji, a native of Bariga. This change was announced by the outgoing LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, during the inauguration of several infrastructural and community projects in the area on Friday, July 25, 2025.
The renaming of the bus stop follows a broader initiative to honor notable entertainment and public figures linked to the community. Alongside the bus stop, Ajidagan Street was renamed Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. Other prominent renamings included Ilaje Road to King Sunny Ade Road, Bariga Road to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, and Community Road Akoka to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road. Streets were also renamed after other celebrities like 9ice and Tony Tetuila, reflecting a conscious effort by the local government to recognize individuals who have elevated the local and national profile through their talents and contributions.
Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, who previously lent his name to the bus stop, reacted to the decision with the remark, “Na dem sabi,” indicating a neutral stance on the renaming.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users contesting the original name and others accusing the state government of political motivations. Despite the controversy, the renaming symbolizes a form of cultural recognition and legacy preservation by the local council.
This renaming exercise was part of the final acts of the outgoing LCDA chairman's administration, aimed at reinforcing community identity and honoring legacies of local and national icons.
