July 30, 2025 - The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Governor Hope Uzodinma for his failure to publicly address the killing of innocent citizens in Ideato North Local Government Area. The PDP described the governor’s silence as an act of high negligence and indifference to the welfare of the people.
The killings occurred on July 24, 2025, when gunmen attacked three communities Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA, leading to the deaths of over seven individuals and several others injured. These attacks have been widely blamed on suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The attacks caused widespread fear, mourning, and disruption among the residents.
The PDP pointed out that Governor Uzodinma has neither made any public statement nor visited the affected communities to offer condolences or support, despite the gravity of the tragedy. They called for urgent government action to curb the recurring violence, which also includes other incidents like kidnappings and attacks across Imo State.
The party urged the state government to take responsibility by activating security mechanisms to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks. They further criticized the governor for allegedly neglecting the security of Imolites as he focuses on politics at the federal level, thereby abandoning his leadership duties in the state.
This condemnation aligns with calls from various community groups and authorities demanding justice and immediate security interventions to restore peace in the region.
