Popular activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, led a peaceful march in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, to raise awareness about insecurity following the recent kidnapping and murder of Mr. Martins Onyekere, CEO of Fish Magnet, a fresh and dried fish company. The candlelight procession involved thousands of youths dressed in black, starting from Aroma Junction and moving to the location of the slain businessman’s office at Ring Road Junction.
VeryDarkMan emphasized that his visit was not for celebration but to highlight the struggles Nigerian youths face daily due to insecurity, including abduction and killings. The event drew participants across political and religious backgrounds and included support from local officials and political figures.
Prior to the march, the Anambra State Police Command issued a stern warning to VeryDarkMan against actions that could incite tension or disrupt public peace, urging respect for the bereaved family’s wish to mourn privately. The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and cautioned against misinformation or inciting remarks.
The march is part of ongoing responses to the outrage over Onyekere’s murder, which spotlighted the security challenges in the region.
