Lagos Government Shuts Down Victoria Island Nightclub Over Traffic Violations

The Lagos State Government has sealed Vaniti Club House, located on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, due to persistent traffic violations, including illegal parking and obstruction of public roads.

The enforcement was conducted by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), led by General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, with support from the Rescue and Compliance Unit.

Authorities revealed that the closure followed repeated warnings and unsuccessful engagements with the club’s management, which had become notorious for causing traffic jams and endangering road users through indiscriminate parking.

According to Bakare-Oki, the state’s Transport Sector Reform Law expressly forbids actions that block public highways or jeopardize commuter safety. He described the club’s defiance as a “repeated and intentional breach” of traffic laws. Similar entertainment venues violating regulations will face strict penalties.

The clampdown forms part of a broader campaign by the Lagos government to curb the unlawful use of public spaces by hospitality businesses that convert public roads into private parking areas.

“The Vaniti Club House will remain sealed until it complies fully and verifiably with all traffic and public safety regulations,” confirmed LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

This measure demonstrates the state’s commitment to restoring order and protecting road safety within Lagos’ busy urban centers.
