Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, pledged during an X Space discussion titled ‘Weekend Politics’ on August 9, 2025, that he would reform the Nigerian constitution by replacing the principle of indigeneity with citizenship. He promised to end corruption in Nigeria within one month of becoming president, pledging to resign if he fails to do so.
Amaechi also criticized some powerful individuals alleged to be corrupting public institutions, specifically mentioning frequent visits to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by influential people engaged in money theft. He described Professor Yakubu Mahmood as the worst chairman in the history of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Additionally, Amaechi vowed not to reverse the removal of fuel subsidies but to ensure that the funds are redirected into the hands of ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite.
