Tinubu Rewards Each D’Tigress Player with $100,000, House, and OON National Honour

On August 4, 2025, Bola Tinubu formally rewarded each member of Nigeria’s senior female basketball team, the D’Tigress, with a cash prize of $100,000 for their triumphant victory at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship. Beyond the cash reward, Tinubu also gave each player a new apartment and bestowed upon them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

In addition to the players, each coach received $50,000 in recognition of their crucial role in the team’s success. The D’Tigress secured their seventh AfroBasket title and their fifth consecutive championship, reaffirming Nigeria's dominance in African women’s basketball.

This grand reception at the State House in Abuja involved Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who joined the President in celebrating the champions.

This gesture came days after a similar reward sparked controversy when President Tinubu gifted the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s female senior football team, $100,000 each following their historic win at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
