The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 57 students for their involvement in examination malpractice during its 427th meeting held on September 10, 2025. This disciplinary action demonstrates the university's commitment to upholding academic integrity and strict adherence to its General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR).
In addition to the expulsions, eight other students were rusticated, while two were exonerated following investigations into their cases. The decisions cover multiple faculties and departments within the university. One case has been deferred for further investigation, with the Senate Business Committee tasked to conduct a more detailed inquiry.
The directive was communicated publicly through a statement signed by Malam Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records (DEAR) at BUK. The university emphasizes that enforcing these regulations is vital to maintaining the credibility and quality of its academic programs.
The expulsion of the students is part of BUK's ongoing efforts to deter academic dishonesty and ensure a fair learning environment for all students.
