Jimmy Kimmel to Return to Late-Night TV Following Suspension

After a brief indefinite suspension due to controversial remarks about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to his late-night talk show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" starting Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

ABC and Disney announced the return following "thoughtful discussions" with Kimmel and his team. The network had initially pre-empted the show last Wednesday to avoid further escalating tensions during a sensitive time in the nation.

The suspension was sparked by Kimmel’s critical comments targeting supporters of the MAGA movement in connection with the killing of Kirk. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr had condemned Kimmel’s remarks, threatening the network with scrutiny if corrective actions were not taken.

In a statement, ABC highlighted that some of Kimmel’s remarks were "poorly timed and therefore inappropriate," but emphasized that the recent meaningful conversations led to the decision to resume the show.

Kimmel’s return marks an end to the uncertainty around the future of his long-running show which first aired in 2003 and remains a prominent fixture of American late-night television.

Fans and viewers can expect new episodes starting Tuesday with Kimmel likely to address current events and continue his signature blend of comedy and commentary.
