The Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives have jointly announced the postponement of their plenary resumption, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The new date for resuming plenary sessions is Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana Esq., issued the official statement on behalf of the presiding officers of both chambers, informing all members of the National Assembly and the public of the change.
While the plenary sessions have been rescheduled, committee activities will continue as planned during this period.
The postponement is reportedly to allow lawmakers ample time to participate in Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations on October 1, which involve nationwide festivities and constituency engagements.
This extension adds two weeks to the National Assembly's annual recess, which began on July 23, 2025. The National Assembly had already extended its recess earlier in the year to accommodate holidays and other engagements.
Members of the Senate and House are requested to adjust their schedules accordingly, and any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling is sincerely regretted.
