Anioma State Senator Ned Nwoko Says Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Will Bring Peace to South-East

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District and from Anioma State, has called for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stating that his continued detention has fueled unrest in the South-East region. According to Nwoko, releasing Kanu and creating an additional state in the South-East will ease tensions and promote lasting peace in the area.

Speaking in an interview, Nwoko described Kanu’s incarceration as unjust and stressed that if the government wishes to try Kanu, it should proceed with due process without unnecessary delays. He also noted the widespread perception of marginalization in the South-East, pointing out that it remains the only geopolitical zone in Nigeria with just five states, a situation he believes was deliberately designed to undermine the region.

Nwoko shared that many youths in the South-East desire peace, education, and jobs, urging the government to take action that acknowledges and respects the rights of the region’s people.

The senator also highlighted having discussed the issues of insecurity and agitation in the South-East with President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging that the president is aware and has plans to address them.

Nwoko’s call reflects ongoing demands for reconciliation and political solutions to longstanding grievances in the South-East, with his stance emphasizing justice, equity, and inclusion as prerequisites for peace.
