Canadian Member of Parliament Andrew Scheer has raised serious concerns about the escalating persecution of Christians in Nigeria, highlighting that approximately three churches are destroyed daily in the country. Speaking in Canada’s House of Commons, Scheer accused the international community of largely ignoring what he described as a systematic campaign of violence perpetrated by terrorist groups like Boko Haram and allied militias.
Scheer emphasized that over 7,000 Christians have been killed and 3.5 million displaced in Nigeria, while the destruction of churches and religious sites continues unabated. The MP called for heightened global awareness and urgent intervention to support the victims enduring severe human rights abuses.
He condemned the deliberate targeting of Christians and the efforts to eliminate Christianity from Nigeria, describing the crisis as a genocidal campaign. Scheer stressed the need for the world to break its silence and actively engage to halt the atrocities.
The ongoing violence has led to mass displacements and destruction of Christian communities, intensifying Nigeria’s complex security challenges. Scheer’s call brings renewed focus to religious persecution in Nigeria amid calls for sustained international attention and action.
