The political landscape in Osun State is heating up ahead of the 2026 governorship election, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) clash over the screening of Governor Ademola Adeleke by the PDP for another term. The dispute centers on allegations by APC that the process was flawed and a potential manipulation, leading to heightened tension in the state.
Despite the controversy, Adeleke maintains confidence, asserting that his performance in office has earned him the support of the people. Speaking after his screening, Adeleke emphasized that the upcoming election would be a test of the people's approval, not the influence of federal powers. He expressed his readiness to face any challenge, saying, “I am not afraid of losing to any form of federal might. My record speaks for itself, and I believe the people will decide.”
The APC, on the other hand, has accused the PDP of using questionable tactics to secure Adeleke’s candidacy and has called for a transparent and fair process. The party also claimed that their rivals are trying to dominate the political space through underhanded means.
In the midst of these tensions, INEC has issued reminders to all political parties to adhere strictly to electoral laws, warning against early campaigns and ensuring that primaries are conducted transparently within the stipulated timetable.
As the political standoff continues, many political analysts predict a fiercely contested race, with both parties strategizing to win over voters in what promises to be a pivotal election for Osun State’s future.
