Terrorism: 'God in Heaven is God of Justice' - Nnamdi Kanu Speaks as He Begins Defence

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), commenced his defence on Monday, October 27, 2025, in his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Representing himself after dismissing his legal team led by former Attorney General Nkemdilim Kanu Agabi, Kanu insisted that he was ready to open his defence despite previous delays caused by his lack of access to his case file.

Kanu declared, "God in heaven is the God of justice," expressing confidence that truth and justice would prevail in his trial. He refuted the terrorism charges, asserting that his actions were aimed at advocating for the independence of Biafra, the southeastern region of Nigeria.

During the hearing, Kanu requested permission to meet with witnesses expected from countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Kenya, and Ethiopia over the weekend to prepare for his defence. The court granted his request and directed the Department of State Services to allow visitation.

The trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, cautioned that the six-day time limit for Kanu's defence, starting October 23, would not be extended further.

Nnamdi Kanu’s trial remains a focal point in Nigeria’s ongoing conflict surrounding the Biafran separatist movement, with significant implications for regional stability and governance.
