The Kano State Government has demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making reckless and inflammatory comments that undermine ongoing security efforts in the state.
Following its 34th Executive Council meeting, Information Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya highlighted Ganduje's claims that Kano is vulnerable to banditry and his plan to recruit 12,000 personnel into a proposed religious police outfit called Khairul Nas, labeling it an illegal militia attempt.
Waiya noted that suspected bandits infiltrated border communities less than 48 hours after the statements, raising suspicions of premeditation or linkage to the attacks in areas like Bagwai and Shanono.
The government reaffirmed appreciation for federal support and security agencies while insisting no individual can destabilize peace or form vigilante groups. This escalates tensions with Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, whom the council also criticized for similar politicized remarks.
