Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has cautioned the Kano State Government against playing politics with insecurity, rejecting allegations that his comments undermine security efforts in the state. Responding to claims by Information Commissioner Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya that his statements emboldened bandits in areas like Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, Barau described the accusations as false, malicious, and baseless, challenging the government to provide video evidence.
Barau emphasized his consistent collaboration with stakeholders to tackle threats across Kano and Nigeria, urging Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to focus on governance rather than tarnishing reputations amid rising bandit incursions.
He lamented Kano's decline from prosperity under previous leadership, calling on the administration to wake up, visit affected communities, and prioritize action over blame. The exchange echoes similar rebukes from APC's Abdullahi Ganduje, highlighting deepening partisan tensions over northern security.
